I'll Stay Another Semester
It turns out that I could graduate college a semester early. I'd taken a lot of dual credit classes in high school, and that knocked out some of my gen ed stuff.
Thinking about it a bit, I don't think I will. Of course, I've only just finished my sophomore year, so things could change. But, I think it would be a bad idea.
American universities are nominally places of learning and professional training. But they are also a technology for forging social connections (and, sometimes, they are dating services1). But, I haven't made more than a few close friends. Part of this is because I've been busy, part of it is because I'm an autist. But, mainly, I haven't put that much effort into it.
And I really should. Never again will I be surrounded by so many people who are roughly my age. Statistics dictate that I'll get along with many of them, and that a smaller number of them are marriageable. I should put much more effort into meeting them, and I could use another few months to do so.
According to legend, this is especially true of Bible colleges. Hence the saying: "ring by Spring or your money back." I lack personal experience in this area, perhaps regrettably.↩
