I Started to Fall for a Trans Girl

Earlier this week, I met a woman who I clicked with perfectly. She is funny. She is beautiful. She is smart. We share interests and passions. My conversations with her are frictionless in a way they rarely are with people I've just met. If I meet a woman who I gel with half as well, it's not long before I flirt with her and see if she wants to get coffee.

But, as it soon came out, this woman is a trans. She was born male. She lived as a boy for years.

This shouldn't matter. In a just society, it wouldn't matter. But, if I dated a trans woman, my parents would probably disown me. I'm still a student, it's not like I'm financially independent of them yet. I can't afford to piss them off too much. So I strangled love in its cradle, and I put this girl in the friendzone. I feel angry about this. Of course, I'm not really the victim -- that's the person who's part of an oppressed gender minority. But still, I'm pissed. I can't date someone because of foolish and unethical social norms. Maybe I'm being cowardly, I don't know...
